TRP sabotage case; Clean chit to Republic TV

Republic TV and Republic Bharat get a clean chit in TRP sabotage case However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has not closed its probe against India Today and News Nation.

Last week, the ED filed a charge sheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against 16 people, including directors of Box Cinema, Fakt Marathi and Maha Movies. These include the relationship managers of the Hansa Research Group, which has been tasked with the rating agency BARC. The ED said it has examined the role of Republic TV in this.

The investigation conducted by the Mumbai Police and the ED’s investigation report were different. During the investigation, it was found that republic TV and R Bharat were not watched in the panel households and they did not take money to watch republic channel.

According to the police report, there was a change in the way trp was calculated for some channels. The report was based on a forensic audit. However, the ED report was that an in-depth examination would prove this to be wrong.

In some places, money was paid to see India Today and News Nation and the ED is investigating the matter, the officials said.
