Pathanamthitta: Health Department Veena George has said that the National Medical Commission has expressed satisfaction over the tests conducted for admission to MBBS at Konni Medical College in Pathanamthitta. The government has made several emergency interventions for the recognition of Konni Medical College. Even during the spread of Covid, a lot of attention was paid to the development activities of the medical college. The minister said he hoped to get the written approval as soon as possible.
Minister Veena George chaired a meeting of konni medical college at various levels and coordinated the activities. Development works worth more than Rs 250 crore have been undertaken. A financial sanction of Rs 200 crore has been obtained for the construction of administrative block, canteen, hostels, quarters, laundry, animal house, auditorium, mortuary and second block of the 200-bed hospital. A sum of Rs 18.72 crore has been specifically made available from KIIFB for providing books, classroom, labour room, blood bank, medical equipment, furniture, medical gas pipeline, lab equipment, etc. for starting first year classes. Administrative sanction of Rs 15,50,76,322 has been accorded for the construction of internal road, STP, entrance, etc. and further steps are being taken.
Op, IP and emergency departments have been started in the medical college. A minor operation theatre, a 24-hour lab and a pharmacy facility have been set up. Additional furniture worth Rs 16 lakh has been made available in the emergency department. EHealth has been set up. An oxygen plant was set up. Permission has been given to set up the first 128 slide CT scan and modular operation theatres in the district at a cost of Rs 5 crore. A target project worth Rs 3.5 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a modern labour room. Karunya Medical Store and Blade Storage Unit have been established. Construction of the 10-storey quarters has begun. Construction of boys’ hostel and ladies’ hostel has started.
